The Lab-STICC (UMR CNRS 6285) is a leading research laboratory affiliated with several institutions: University of South Brittany (UBS), University of Western Brittany (UBO), IMT Atlantique, ENSTA Bretagne, and the National Engineering School of Brest (ENIB). Located in Brest, Quimper, Lorient, and Vannes, it brings together nearly 650 scientists, faculty researchers, PhD students, and engineers around a shared ambition: “From sensors to knowledge: communicate and decide.”
Organized into nine scientific divisions, the UBS component of Lab-STICC covers a wide range of disciplines:
- Embedded Artificial Intelligence,
- Signal and Image Processing,
- Digital Communications,
- Embedded Systems Security,
- Human Factors,
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
This diversity enables the development of high-level research across various sectors, including maritime environment, healthcare, defense, space, robotics, connected objects, and communication systems.
Lab-STICC stands out with an integrated approach that connects all stages of information processing: from sensor design, to data transmission and analysis, up to decision support. This global vision is strengthened by cross-disciplinary programs addressing key future challenges: cybersecurity of embedded systems, autonomous robotics, virtual and augmented reality, and applied artificial intelligence, particularly in the maritime domain.
The Lab-STICC contributes to the development of innovative solutions in four major areas:
- Intelligent and secure embedded systems,
- Human–machine interfaces and human factors,
- Geographic Information Systems (GIS),
- Decision support, operational research, and digital twins.
Strongly committed to applied research and technology transfer, the laboratory works in close collaboration with industrial partners and institutional stakeholders, serving both innovation and society.
