The Laboratory of Marine Biotechnology and Chemistry (LBCM – EMR CNRS 6076) is a recognized scientific player in the study of marine biofilms and the valorization of molecules derived from the marine environment.

Its research focuses on understanding microorganism–surface interactions, developing innovative solutions against biofilms, and identifying bioactive compounds with high potential for health, the environment, and marine biotechnologies.

LBCM’s research is structured around three major areas:

  • Interactions between organisms and abiotic surfaces,
  • Interactions between microorganisms (cell–cell communication),
  • Biotechnological valorization of marine molecules.

The laboratory adopts a resolutely multidisciplinary approach, bringing together expertise in microbiology, chemistry, molecular biology, and physiology.

As a committed partner to the industrial world, LBCM is a member of the Carnot Institute Agrifood Transition, with the mission of contributing to major food, health, and environmental transitions.

The laboratory actively contributes to the valorization of marine resources and the development of innovative biotechnological solutions to address today’s environmental and societal challenges.
Notably, it provides complementary characterization methods to those of UBSIDE, particularly for marine applications such as ecotoxicity assessment.

These areas of expertise enrich UBSIDE’s offer and open new perspectives, especially in the field of blue biotechnologies.
